Abstract

The state of bridges in the United States is the focus of this article, as it takes a look at data released by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Bridges are assessed, not just in terms of condition, but from a true safety and risk perspective. A table of deficient bridges by state is included. New tools for analyzing bridge conditions, such as web-based software and protocols for load-rating bridges, are discussed. Accelerated bridge construction is also mentioned.
