Abstract

Identifies challenges to and benefits of an integrated electronic toll and traffic management (ETTM) system. Recent developments in Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) technology are reviewed and possibilities of integrating ETC and Traffic Management Systems (TMS) to reduce costs and improve each system's effectiveness are presented. Policy and institutional issues associated with their integration are also discussed. In addition, congestion pricing opportunities than an integrated system provides are identified.
