Abstract

Survey of five regional passenger rail systems' maintenance-of-way projects funded under the Federal Transit Administration's new-starts allocations for FY 2001. They include more than 80 miles in new light-rail construction by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA); joint upgrades of highway and light-rail transit facilities by the Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD); New Jersey Transit's Secaucus Transfer, bringing together what had been 12 competing lines in a gateway to the northeastern rail corridor, set to open this year after more than 25 years of planning; the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's light-rail extensions to east L.A.; and extensions of the San Diego trolley system.
