MEETING CURRENT AND FUTURE CHALLENGES IN URBAN TRAFFIC ENGINEERING

The Institute of Transportation Engineers and the U.S. Federal Highway Administration have identified and are addressing needs in urban traffic engineering and traffic control systems through a unique combination of resources provided by both. The effort will establish an information clearinghouse to disseminate information on urban traffic engineering and traffic control systems, and identify education and training needs in traffic engineering and implement the findings. It will develop guidelines for the structure and staffing of urban traffic engineering units and for the operation and maintenance of traffic control systems. The effort will also reach out to decision makers and the general public on urban traffic engineering and traffic control systems.
