Abstract
After installing multiple space SmartMeters, the city of Portland experienced a rise in revenue. The European Stelio model accepts credit cards and smart cards, and generates receipts to be placed in windows, which Portland allows to be used for other parking spots until the time is expired. Because nearly half of payments are made by credit card, the new meters have reduced jamming and better coin recognition has also helped because the machine will return anything it doesn't recognize. The meters are equipped with wireless, two-way communication, which sends electronic messages when paper and batteries are low. Installation of the new meters has maintenance and cost benefits, but it also beautifies the streets by eliminating the fence like rows of the old meters.
