Why Conventional Parking Meters

This article describes the advantages of conventional parking meters over other methods of paying for street parking such as pay stations and cellphone parking. The author describes the advantages of the conventional meters as being the low cost for upgrades, convenience and less confusion for people parking, and easy maintenance. Further, they are very simple for officers to enforce without having to try to match up license plates or sticker numbers. The author then counters some common arguments against conventional meters which are aesthetics, no receipt and that conventional meters can’t take credit cards. The author suggests that other methods of parking enforcement can be equally ugly, the lack of receipts saves paper, and the inability to use credit cards prevents identity fraud. Finally, the author gives suggestions of features to look for when purchasing parking meters.
