Abstract

When the 30.5 km long, US$6 billion West Rail link is finished, it will link Kowloon with the rapidly developing new towns of the North West New Territories which are not yet connected to Hong Kong commuter rail network. The article reports on the progress of the project that is now entering its third year of construction and is still on track for completion in 2003. Discussed is one of the most impressive features of the project: almost half of the railway, a total length of 13.4 km is being built on viaduct.
