Abstract

THE ARLES-FOS INTERURBAN MOTORWAY WILL LINK THE INDUSTRIAL ZONE AND HARBOUR OF FOS AND THE LANGUEDOC REGION, AND THE RHONE VALLEY; IT WILL COMPRISE TWO SECTIONS: THE FIRST, 14,4 KM LONG, BETWEEN ARLES AND SAINT-HIPPOLYTE, WILL BE THE LOCAL DIVERSION OF THE RN113. THIS SECTION COULD BE INTEGRATED IN THE INTERURBAN EAST-WEST MOTORWAY LINKING THE LANGUEDOC MOTORWAY 19 TO THE PROVENCAL, THE A8 MOTORWAY. THE SECOND SECTION, 19,7 KM LONG, CONSISTS OF A ROAD PARALLEL TO THE RN568 BETWEEN SAINT-HIPPOLYTE AND FOS. THE CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS WERE COMPLETED IN 20 MONTHS. THE COST WAS 55 MILLION FRANCS FOR THE ARLES-SAINT-HIPPOLYTE SECTION, THAT IS TO SAY 4,4 MF/KM AND 33 MILLION FRANCS FOR THE SAINT-HIPPOLYTE-FOS SECTION, THAT IS TO SAY 1,67 MF/KM. SPECIAL DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE EARTHWORKS AT A SITE WHERE COMPRESSIBLE SOIL WAS FOUND TOGETHER WITH THE FOUNDATIONS OF ENGINEERING STRUCTURES IN THE SAME ZONE. SILICO-LIMESTONE AGGREGATES WERE USED IN THE CARRIAGEWAY. MENTION IS MADE OF THE THICKNESS OF GRAVEL-BITUMEN LAYERS. CONTINUOUS CONTROLS WERE CARRIED OUT: 1340 MEASUREMENTS OF THE DENSITY, 1340 MEASUREMENTS OF THE THICKNESSES, 2640 DEFLECTION MEASUREMENTS, AND 8022 MEASUREMENTS OF THE BINDER CONTENT.
