BRIEF DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE MOTORWAY ALIGNMENT WHICH GOES TO THE CENTRE OF THE CITY AND WHICH COST APPROXIMATELY 600 MILLION FRANCS, 40% OF WHICH BEING COMPENSATION FOR EXPROPRIATION. THE SAINT PHILIPPE-CAMBETTA SECTION IS BUILT OVER A PRESTRESSED VIADUCT. THE DESIGN SPEED ADOPTED FOR THE ALIGNMENT AND LONGITUDINAL PROFILE WAS 80 KM/H. THE GAMBETTA-CIMIEZ SECTION IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS: (1) THE GAMBETTA-MALAUSSENA PART ALSO BUILT ON A PRESTRESSED VIADUCT WITH INDEPENDENT SPANS MADE OF PRECAST GIRDERS RESTING ON TRANSVERSE FRAMES WHICH ARE SUPPORTED BY BARS SUNK IN THE SOIL; (2) THE MALAUSSENA-CIMIEZ PART SIMILAR TO THE PREVIOUS PART EXCEPT THAT THE BEARINGS OF THE FRAME INSTEAD OF BEING LOCATED BETWEEN THE RAILWAY TRACKS ARE ON EACH SIDE OF THE RAILWAY PLATFORM.
