Abstract

It is customary to consider A.N. Popov the founder of the bourgeois conception in Russian historiography of the War of 1812. The compilers of the 1912 seven-volume jubilee set, The Patriotic War and Russian Society [Otechestvennaia voina i russkoe obshchestvo], even emphasized that Popov had, in fact, launched "the scholarly trend in the historiography of the Patriotic War."
