Abstract

Huxi sub-baisin(HX) has gradually raised its own standard for flood control by improvement of the rivers from HX to the Yangtze River and the lake Taihu in recent years, which has an certain impact on the flood control of Taihu basin. Based on the flood control projects of current and planned flood control and drainage standards, the Taihu hydrological and hydrodynamic coupling model is used to analyze the impact of the improvement of standard for flood control in the HX on flood control of Taihu basin from the variation of the maximum water level and volume of flow. The results show that the maximum flood level in the HX is greatly reduced by increasing the volume of flow flowing into the northern Yangtze river and the east into lake Tai, and the flood risk is alleviated by the increase of the standard for flood control in the HX. At the same time, the volume of flow flowing form the lake Tai into the Wangyu River and Taipu River is also increased, which further increases the flood risk of the basin. When the rain pattern is more unfavorable to the northern region of the Taihu basin, the improvement of standard for flood control in HX will have a greater impact on the flood control of Taihu basin.
