AAP needs to reassess reform stance

Dear Colleagues, Recognizing that we have a new Congress, with different views on health care reform and children9s issues in general, your Board of Directors believes that a reassessment of the Academy9s position on health care reform is warranted. To assist the Board in its deliberations, the January AAP News contained a vehicle for readers to express their views on the AAP health care system reform goals enunciated in our Children First proposal. I was pleased by the fact that nearly 1,000 AAP News readers responded to the questionnaire. In addition, nearly 200 fellows volunteered to assist in AAP efforts to alter the current health care system, and make it better for children, pediatricians, and pediatric surgical and medical specialists.
