Does smart education belong to educational technology

Historically, educational technology was started with the development of educational media. When a new medium showed up such as radio, television, computer, and Internet, the field of educational technology was also affected by the medium. It is the same now with smart devices and smart education. I wonder if smart education or a smart device is a part of educational technology. With the advent of a new medium, the field of educational technology can be expanded. That expansion can be good for the field to grow and advance. While growing, we need also to maintain the core of the field at the same time. Because of the overwhelming advance in technology, educational technology seems to lose the border of the field. As a result, it seems to be difficult where we can draw the border to define and differentiate educational technology from other fields. Smart education is one of the hottest issues that educational technologists are studying. However, educational technologists are not the only researchers who are studying this issue since it is about the future educational system. Educational technologists can deal with a part of smart education closely related to the field. In this presentation, the attributes that define educational technology will be reviewed and presented. How those attributes can be used to identify what educational technologists need to study when a new medium shows up such as smart devices
