The expression and clinical significances of p53,nm23 proteins in squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix

Abstract

Objective To study the expression of p53,nm23 proteins in squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix and their clininical significances. Methods The expression of p53,nm23 proteins was detected by S-P immunohistochemical methods in 45 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix and 10 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) and 10 samples of normal cervical squamous epithelium(NE). Results The positive expression rates of p53 and nm23 were 64.44%,46.67% respectively in squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix,and were 0,30.00% in CIN,and both were absent in NE.The expression of p53 had significant difference between squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix and CIN or NE(P0.01). The expression of nm23 had also significant difference between squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix and NE(P0.05),and was negatively related to the histological grade of cervical carcinoma and lymph node metastasis(P0.05,P0.01),but had not difference between squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix and CIN(P0.05). Conclusions p53,nm23 proteins may play important roles in the development and progression of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix.The overexpression of p53 proteins might be a biological marker for malignant transformation in cervical tissue.The detection of nm23 protein has positive effects on evaluating the lymph node metastasis and prognosis of cervical carcinoma.
