Abstract

Objective To discuss the causes and treatment measurements of posterior capsule rupture in the phacoemulsification for cataracts. Methods 39 cases (39 eyes) with posterior capsule rupture in 825 patients (896 eyes)performed with phacoemulsification were retrospective analyzed. Results The posterior capsule in 39 cases (39 eyes) were ruptured (4.35%),including 4 cases in capsulorhexis,5 cases in hydrodisseetion,27 cases in the process of emulsification and 3 cases in the cortex extraction. After the treatment with IOL implantation, the visual acuity in 29 eyes was equal to or more than 0.3(74.36% ) ; The corneal edema appeared in 12 eyes(30.77% ),all of them recovered within a week. Conclusion Posterior capsule rupture is a familiar complication in phacoemulsification and happens in varial steps.Appropriate and timely intraoperative management will bring good visual acuity. Key words: Phacoemulsification; Posterior capsule rupture
