Abstract

Field experiments were conducted using strains 147 (French strain) and 9 (Chinese strain) of Beau-veria bassiana to control Asiatic corn borer (Ostrinia furnacalis) in Jilin in 1984. A granular preparation was applied once at a dose of 6×1013 spores/hectare. Populations of the 1st and 2nd generation of corn borer larvae decreased95.27-96.62% and 75.55-84.28%, respectively. An increase of 72.77-83.60% and 29.21-50.7% of infected larvae was found for the two generations respectively. It was found that the effectiveness of strain 147 was better than strain 9 for controlling corn borer larvae of 1st generation, but poorer for 2nd generation. The difference might be due to a shorter residual period of 147. No synergetic effect was found when the two granular preparations were used together.
