Abstract

[Objective]To investigate the correlation of BMI, waistline, and high blood pressure among 15 to 18 years old high school students in Guilin city. [Methods] Measured blood pressure, height, and waistline of 880 students aged from 15 to 18 in one of high schools in Guilin city and carried out correlation analysis. [Results] We found 1.93% students had high blood pressure (≥140/90mm HG). Among the students with overweight and obesity, the rates of high blood pressure were 19.44% and 25.92%, respectively, which was significantly different (P﹤0.01) from those with normal weight (0.36%). Students with waistline bigger than 80cm had higher rate of high blood pressure than those with waistline smaller than 80cm (P﹤0.01). [Conclusion] There may be high blood pressure patients among the high school students aged from 15 to 18 in Guilin city. The prevalence rate becomes higher for students with high BMI and waistline. High school students should control their weight and waistline.
