Abstract

Objective To study the blood pressure level and incidence of relative high blood pressure among students, and to provide a basis for the early prevention of hypertension. Methods Height, weight, chest circumference and blood pressure were surveyed among 7200 students aged 7-18 years according to The Manual of the 2000 Constitution and Health Survey of Students in China. Results Blood pressure level increased with the increase of age. Male students and students came from rural areas had higher blood pressure level than female students and students came from cities. Compared with data collected in 1985, the deviation of blood pressures of students became larger. The incidence of relative high blood pressure was higher in students who came from rural areas than in those who came from cities. Blood pressure level was significantly correlated with height, weight, chest circumference and BMI. Conclusions The individual difference become larger in blood pressure level among Hubei students and a higher incidence of relative high blood pressure is found among students living in rural areas. The early prevention of hypertension is of great urgency.
