Abstract

Objective:To investigate the efficacy and safety of the combination of thermotherapy with 10% povidone iodine and laser in treatment of recurrent condyloma acuminatum. Methods:Sixty patients with recurrent condyloma acuminatum were randomly divided into A and B groups(n=30).Group A,combination of thermotherapy with 10% povidone iodine and laser; Group B,laser treatment alone.Patients who had recurrent condyloma acuminatum with wart body diameter less than 1 cm were assigned into Group C,subjected to photodynamic therapy. Each group was observed for 6 months to determine efficacy. Results:In Group A,27 patients were cured and 3 recurred. In Group B,19 patients were cured and 11 recurred. In Group C,26 patients were cured and 4 recurred. The efficacy in Group A was better than that in Group B(χ2=5.963,P=0.015),but there was no significant difference between A and C group(χ2=0.162,P=0.688).Some side effects appeared in patients in Group A during the treatment but all patients were able to tolerate them. Conclusion:The combination thermotherapy with 10% povidone iodine and laser in treatment of recurrent condyloma is effective and safe, which shows similar therapeutic effect to photodynamic treatment.
