Abstract

Objective To understand the regularity of incidence of the stomach cancer in Fengxian population from 2002 to 2005. Methods Cases with stomach cancer in Fengxian from 2002 to 2005 were collected by the Shanghai Cancer Registry Organization. The incidence rate and standardized incidence rate of the stomach cancer in this period were calculated and its trends were analyzed. Results The standard incidence of stomach cancer in male and female declined from 41.64 / 10 000 and 17.75 / 10 000 in 2002 to 30.11 / 10 000 and 14.39/10 000 in 2005, and decline per year was 10.24% in male and 6.67% in female during this four years. The average decline of total standard incidence of stomach cancer was 9.13%. The incidences of stomach cancer in both sexes were increased with ages, especially higher above 40 years old. Conclusion The standard incidence of stomach cancer has declined in general in Fengxian from 2002 to 2005. The results indicated that it is still an important public health task to prevent and control the stomach cancer in people above 40 years old.
