Effects of Yiqi Huoxue Chinese medicine on Serum Lipid and Inflammatory Cytokines in Type 2 Diabetic rats

Objective Research effects of Yiqi Huoxue Chinese medicine on Serum Lipid and Inflammatory Cytokines in Type 2 Diabetic rats. Methods 30 rats were randomly divided into the control group (C,n=6),the Diabetic mellus group(DM,n=7),the Atorvastatin treated group (DA,n=6) and the Yiqi Huoxue Chinese medicine treated group (DJ,n=6). The murine modelof type2 diabetes was established by intravenous injec-tion of streptozotocin and feeding with high fat and high calorie diet. Atorvastatin and Yiqi Huoxue Chinese medicine was given additionally to rats in the DA and DJ groups respectively.Fasting blood glucose (FBG), Lipids(compose of TC, TG, LDL-C and HDL-C), C-reactive protein (CRP),interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) were measured after 8 weeks’treatment. Results After treatment, FBG of diabetic rats were significantly higher than the C group, which has a very significantdifferenc(eP0.01).FBG of DJ group became lower than that of the DM and the DA group at the end of 8th weeken(P0.05) , However, there is no significant difference between DM and the DA group(P 0.05). The Serum TC, TG, and LDL-C of DA group were dropped and HDL-C elevated obviously compared with group DM(P0.01).At the same time, the levels of CRP, IL-6 and TNF-α decreased significantly in the group DA and DJ respectively compared with group DM(P0.01), the effect between them have no defference .Conclusion Both Yiqi Huoxue Chinese medicine and Atorvastatin can reduce the serum levels of inflammatory cytokines of type2 diabetes mellitus rats, the role of regulating blood lipids are similar between them.
