Abstract

Objective To study the effect of patients with advanced gstric carcinoma was systemic combined chemotherapy with ELF reginen, consisting of 10 hrdroxycmptothecine(HCPT),etoposide(Vp 16),Leucovorin(LV)and 5 fluorouracil(5 Fu).Methods From Apr 1993 to Fed.1997,52 cases of advanced gastric carcinoma were treated with HELF combined chemotherapy,i.e HCPT8mg/m 2/div; ;VP 16 60mg/m 2/d iv;LV 100mg/m 2/d iv and 5-FU600mg/m 2/d iv,all drugs for 5 days cycles were repeated for every 28 days. Results Four patients achieved a complete response (CR7 67%),twenty five patients had a partial response (PR48 07%),thus RR (CR+RR) was 55 76%.The RR rate was higher than ElF regimen in our control group(41 16%)( P 0 05).HELF! s longer than ELF in the mean time of servival( P 0 05).HELF combined chemotherapy produced mild and transient hemeologic toxicity, the most common toxicities were gastrointestinal reaction and alopecia.Nausea vomiting can be prevented:by 5 HT3 antireceptor drug. Conclusion HELF regimen provides new favorable and safe tretment for patients with advanced gastric carcinoma.
