A taxonomic study and faunistic distribution of Papilionidae (Lepidoptera) in Gansu,China

Abstract

An investigation of the insect species composition of Papilionidae in Gansu province,China showed that there were 36 species and subspecies of papilios,belonging to Papilioninae and Zerynthiinae of Papilionidae recorded in Gansu to date.There are 14 new records of species and subspecies of papilios reported in the province.In this paper,the authors report the main features of Papilionidae fauna and geographical divisions in Gansu.Among the 36 species of butterfly,21 were Oriental species,11 were widespread species,3 were Palaearctic species,and 1 was an Oriental and Palaearctic species.The population structure of Gansu Papilionidae is mainly based on Oriental species,and the Oriental and widespread species were dominant.
