Abstract

Objective To evaluate the long-term efficacy of hydroxyapatite orbital implant after eyeball enucleation. Methods The data of 613 eyes of 613 patients which received hydroxyapatite orbital implant from Oct.1996 to Sep.2016 were analyzed retrospectively. The followed-up time was 1-20 years. Results There were artificial orbital implant exposure in 8 patients, hydroxyapatite extrusion in 2 cases, conjunctival sac constriction in 31 cases, mild degree ptosis in 18 cases, sunken eye lid in 57 cases, loose lower lid in 43 cases, shallow lower fornix in 33 cases and conjunctival granulation tissue hyperplasia in 19 cases. No secondary infection occurred postoperatively. Conclusion The hydroxyapatite orbital implant is an effective treatment, with a low rate, mild complications and satisfactory appearance. Key words: Artificial eye pedestal, hydroxyapatite; Implantation, orbit
