Relationship between homocysteine and blood lipids in cerebral infarction patients

Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between homocysteine (Hcy) and blood lipids, and to analyze the diagnostic value of Hcy for cerebral infarction. Methods A total of 180 patients with cerebral infarction treated in General Hospital of Fenxi Mining Group from July 2016 to June 2019 were selected as the cerebral infarction group, and 80 patients with other diseases treated in the hospital were set as non-cerebral infarction group, and 50 healthy persons in the same period as control group. Hcy and blood lipid levels of all subjects were measured. Results The levels of total cholesterol and Hcy in patients with cerebral infarction and non-cerebral infarction were significantly higher than those in the control group. The level of high density lipopretein cholesterol (HDL-C) in patients in cerebral infarction was significantly higher than that in non-cerebral infarction group and control group (P<0.05). The results showed that there was a negative correlation between Hcy and HDL-C (P<0.05). The sensitivity of Hcy for cerebral infarction was 42.22%, the specificity was 53.75%, the accuracy was 45.77%, and the positive predictive value was 67.26%, the negative predictive value was 29.25%. Conclusions Hcy is associated with HDL-C levels, but Hcy is less effective in diagnosing cerebral infarction, which is not suitable as a biomarker for clinical diagnosis.
