Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical effect of improved washing method of oral nursing in patients with orotracheal intubation .Methods Sixty-eight patients with orotracheal intubation were divided into improved group of 38 cases and traditional group of 30 cases by random number table method .The traditional group was given the traditional washing method of oral nursing , and the improved group was given compound chlorhexidine gargle through larynx spray for oral nursing , that was the improved washing method of oral nursing. The plaque index, the duration of catheter, the length of hospital stay and the occurrence of complications during the hospital were observed in the two groups .Results The plaque index on day 1 was not statistically significant difference in patients between the two groups (P〉0.05);the plaque index on day 3 and on day 7 were statistically significant difference in patients between the two groups (P〈0.05); and The mean plaque index was (2.3 ±0.4) in the conventional group, and (2.1 ±0.2) in the improved group, the difference was statistically significant ( t =2.69, P 〈0.01).There were statistically significant differences between the two groups at the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), the length of hospital stay, the duration of catheter, and the positive rate of pharyngeal swab (P〈0.05).Conclusions The improved washing method of oral nursing is an effective and reliable oral nursing intervention and has good clinical results at removing residual dirt, reducing oral bacteria, and improving oral cleanliness. Key words: Oral nursing; Orotracheal intubation; Improved washing method
