Preliminary research of aerobic strength training on glucose and lipids control in patients with hypertension

Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of aerobic strength training on blood pressure control of primary hypertension and exercise compliance. Methods A total of 96 patients with primary hypertension were randomly divided into two groups. Patients in the control group(n=51) received routine community health education, while the patients in the observation group(n=48) received aerobic strength training. The changes of patients′ blood pressure, average time spent on exercise and dosage of antihypertensive drug were compared between two groups. Results After 3 months′ exercise, blood pressure were decreased in two groups; in observation group, the systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were decreased by 13mmHg and 6mmHg, and compared with the blood pressure before intervention, differences were significant (P<0.05). There was no significant change in DBP of patients between two groups at 1 month and 3 months after intervention (P<0.05). Exercise adherence rate in observation group was 85.42%, and was 62.74% in control group (P<0.05); 3 months later, dosage of 33% patients in observation group was decreased to 1/3, there were 20.83% that decreased to an half, while 17.65% patients in the control group that decreased to 1/3 and 5.88% patients that decreased to half (P<0.05). Conclusions Aerobic strength training can effectively improve the exercise compliance, quality of life and control the blood pressure in patients with primary hypertension.
