Endovascular embolization of tiny ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysms

Abstract
Objective To summarize the experience of endovascular treatment of tiny ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysms and discuss the technical points of procedure and complications. Method The clinical data of 22 cases with tiny ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysms which treated with endovascular embolization between January 2009 and December 2010 was retrospectively analyzed. Results Endovascular embolization was successfully performed in all patients. 1 to 3 coils were used in each aneurysm. Complete obliteration of aneurysm was achieved in 18 aneurysms, near complete in 3 aneurysms, 1 aneurysm with neck remnant. During the operation, there were no aneurysm perforations or any other treatment - related complications. Follow - up with DSA or CTA in 10 patients demonstrated no recanalization of the aneurysm. No rebleeding was found in clinical follow - up. Conclusions Endovascular embolization of tiny ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysms is relatively safe and effective in selected cases.
