Endovascular embolization for ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm and radiological evaluation before procedure

Objective To summarize the treatment experience of endovascular embolization for ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysms,and discuss radiological evaluation before procedure.Methods 46 patients of anterior communicating artery aneurysms were treated with endovascular embolization between August 2006 and January 2011.8 cases embolized aneurysms with coils through two microcatheters and 2 cases with the stent-assisted coiling technique.Results Embolization was successfully performed in all patients.Complete occlusion was achieved in 32 patients,95% occlusion in 11 patients,90% occlusion in 2 patients,and 80%occlusion in 1 patient.42 patient recovered successfully,1 patient demonstrated infarction at monolateral anterior cerebral artery,1 patient demonstrated persistent vegetative state and 2 patients died.Conclusions Endovascular embolization is safe and effective in treating ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm by guided with radiological evaluation before procedure,decrease the complications and improve the future outcome.
