Abstract
Objective To investigate the correlation between the plasm level of homocysteine(Hcy) and carotid intimal-medial thickness(IMT) in type 2 diabetes(T2DM).Methods 54 patients with preliminary diagnosis of T2DM were divided into two groups according to IMT level:normal IMT group and IMT increased group.30 healthy people were chosen as control.Hcy were detected in all patients and healthy people. Results Hcy levels in T2DM was (24.77 ± 10.17) μmol/L,which was higher than that in healthy people [(10.95 ± 2.60) μmol/L] (P < 0.05).Hcy levels in IMT increased group was (19.80 ±4.97)μmol/L,which was higher than that in normal IMT group [(15.00 ±4.83) μmol/L] (P < 0.05).The positive correlation between Hcy and IMT in T2DM was shown (r =0.6384,P < 0.05).Conclusion High Hcy was an independent risk factor of atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes. Key words: Homocysteine; Atherosclerosis t Diabetes
