Abstract
Objective To observe the effects of Huolisu oral liquid combined with sertraline on the serum levels of norepinephrine (NE) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in patients with postpartum depression due to Qi-Blood deficiency, and to explore therapeutic efficiency. Methods A total of 82 patients with postpartum depression due to Qi-Blood deficiency were randomly divided into a treatment group with 43 patients and a control group with 39 patients. The patients in the treatment group were treated with Huolisu oral liquid and sertraline, and those in the control group were treated with sertraline alone for 8 weeks. Severity of depression was evaluated with the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), and the serum levels of NE and 5-HT was detected. Results The HAMD scores after the treatment for 8 weeks were significantly lower than before the treatment in both groups (4.73 ± 3.57 vs. 21.49 ± 3.20 in the treatment group, 9.11 ± 3.13 vs. 21.11 ± 3.12 in the control group; all P<0.05). The serum levels of NE (137.89 ± 56.81 pg/vs. 96.19 ± 36.48 pg/ml in the treatment group, 127.71 ± 54.2ml 7 pg/ml vs. 96.15 ± 34.33 pg/ml in the control group; all P<0.05) and 5-HT (153.43 ± 24.89 ng/ml vs. 45.03 ± 9.09 ng/ml in the treatment group, 125.31 ± 25.09 ng/ml vs. 44.46 ± 8.17 ng/ml in the control group; all P<0.05) after the treatment for 8 weeks were significantly higher than before the treatment in both groups. After the treatment for 8 weeks, the HAMD score was significantly lower, the serum levels of NE and 5-HT were significantly higher in the treatment group than those in the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusions Huolisu oral liquid combined with sertraline can significantly decrease HAMD score, and increase serum levels of NE and 5-HT, obviously improve the depression symptoms in patients with postpartum depression due to Qi-Blood Deficiency. Key words: Depression, postpartum; Qi-Blood Deficiency; Sertraline; Norepinephrine; Serotonin; Huolisu oral liquid
