A clinical analysis on endoscopic sinus surgery

Objective To investigate the curative effect of endoscopic sinus surgery in the treatment of chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps and to explore the related actors affecting surgical efficacy.Methods The data on 527 patients who had undergone endoscopic sinus surgery during the period of 2002 to 2010 were analyzed.Of 527 patients,179 were type Ⅰ,289 were type Ⅱ,and 59 were type Ⅲ.498 patients underwent local anesthesia and intravenous anesthesia.All the patients were followed up for 6 to 36 months,with an average of 13 months.Results The cure rate was 78.2％ for type Ⅰ,67.1％ for type Ⅱ,and 55.9％ for type Ⅲ; and there were significant difference in the cure rate among the three types ( P ＜ 0.01 ).The rate of surgical complication was 5.9％.Conclusions Endoscopic sinus surgery is an effective approach in the treatment of chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps.The surgical efficacy is closely related to the chnical types and the surgical procedures.
