A clinical comparison of different surgical procedures for fungal maxillary sinusitis

Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of traditional radical maxillary surgery (Ke-Lu procedure) and intranasal endoscopic maxillary sinus natural dilation combined with fenestration of inferior meatus in the treatment of fungal maxillary sinusitis.Methods 29 patients who had undergone Ke-Lu procedure were enrolled in a control group,whild 38 patients who had received endoscopic maxillary sinus natural dilation combined with fenestration of inferior meatus were included in a study group.The clinical efficacy was compared between the two groups.Results The cure rate and the total effectiveness rate were significantly higher in the study than in the control group (P＜ 0.05).The recurrence rate was markedly lower in the study group than in the control group (P＜ 0.05).Conclusions Intranasal endoscopic maxillary sinus natural dilation combined with fenestration of inferior meatus is efficacious in the treatment of fungal maxillary sinusitis.Patients have smaller surgical wounds with quicker postoperative recovery and have a lower rate of recurrence.The procedure is worth popularizing clinically.
