Observation on the efficacy of phacoemulsification and IOL implantation in the treatment of high myopia patients with cataract

Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy of phacoemulsification combind with IOL implantation in the treatment of high myopia with cataract. Methods The data of 63 eyes of 48 cases with high myopia and cataract were observed and analysed retrospectively. All cases received phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. Results After operation , all patients were followed up for 3-6 months.Before surgery the visual acuity was light sensation -0.3. In oculur axial length 25.9-30.0 mm groups the postoperative visual acuity was ≤0.08 in 1 eye(2.0%); 0.1-0.25 in 5 eyes (10.2%); 0.3-0.6 in 34 eyes (69.3%) and ≥0.7 in 9 eyes (18.3%). In oculur axial length ≥30.0 mm groups the postoperative visual acuity was ≤0.08 in 1 eye(7.1%); 0.1-0.25 in 4 eyes(28.5%); 0.3-0.6 in 8 eyes(57.1%) and ≥0.7 in 1 eye(7.1%). Posterior capsule ruptured during the operation occurred in 2 eyes(3.2%). Corneal edema happened in 6 eyes(9.5%) 1 day after operation, delayed uveitis in 7 eyes (11.1%), posterior capsular opacification in 14 eyes (22.2%) and retinal detachment in 1 eye (1.5%). Conclusion Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation in high myopia with cataract can improve visual acuity effictively. Key words: Cataract; Myopia, high; Phacoemulsification
