Abstract

Objective To analyze the clinical effects of scleral buckling for the treatment of long-standing rhegmatogenous detachment of retina. Methods Forty-seven eyes of 47 patients diagnosed as long-standing rhegmatogenous detachment of retina were treated with scleral buckling or conbimed with scleral encircling operation. The reattachment state of the retina and postoperative visual acuity were observed. Results All cases were followed up for 3-6 months. In 41 eyes, the retinas were reattached after the first surgery. At the last followed- up time, the postoperative visual acuity was improved in 19 eyes (40.43%), not changed in 24 eyes (51.06%) and decreased in 4 eyes (18.51%). Conclusion Scleral buckling operation is a simple and effective method for treating certain kinds of long-standing retinal detachment. Key words: Retinal detachment, rhegmatogenous, long-standing; Scleral buckling
