Abstract

Objective To study the expression and clinical significance of P16,a novel member of anti-oncogene protein family, and P21,a novel member of carcinomoa gene protein family,in oral lichen planus and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemical technique S-P was used to detect the expression of P16 and P21 protein in 26 cases of normal oral mucosa,40 cases of OLP and 40 cases of OSCC tissues, and their clinical significance were analyzed. Results The expression of P16 and P21 were significantly different in normal oral mucosa,OLP and OSCC tissues(P<0.05).The expressions of P21 and P16 showed a positive correlation in three types of tissues. Conclusions P16 and P21 gene involve in the transformation of OLP to OSCC.P16 and P21 gene are important in the development and progress of OSCC. Key words: P16; P21; Gene; Oral lichen planus; Oral squamous cell carcinoma; Immunohistochemistry; Canceration
