Experience of intubation of silicone lacrimal drainage tube by modified lumbar puncture needle

Abstract
Objective
To sum up the experience of intubation of silicone lacrimal drainage tube by modified lumbar puncture needle.
Methods
Retrospective reviewed 28 cases that underwent intubation of silicone lacrimal drainage tube by modified lumbar puncture needle, including 8 simple nasolacrimal duct obstruction, 15 simple lower lacrimal canaliculi or common canaliculus obstruction, 8 mild chronic dacryocystitis. Follow-up time was 0.5-19 months after taking off silicone tubes. The operation and complication was recorded.
Results
Seven eyes had mucosal injury of lacrimal duct or false passages. Improvement of epiphora was achieved in 21 eyes at last follow-up.
Conclusions
These aspects are important for operations of intubation of silicone lacrimal drainage tube: sufficiently expansion of inferior nasal meatus, avoidance of mucosal injury of lacrimal duct, knowing well the position of guided tube.
