Abstract
Objective To discuss the clinical significance of dynamic monitoring of serum procalcitonin levels in diagnosis and prognosis of patients with sepsis. Methods 27 cases of sepsis (the observation group) treated in our hospital from June 2010 to June 2012 and 28 cases without sepsis selected at the same period,as a control group, were enrolled in the study. The level of serum procalcitonin was detected dynamically, then we compared the difference between the two groups and analyzed the variation of PCT levels in patient with sepsis. Results The level of serum PCT in the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group in each period(P<0.05);the level of serum PCT in patients with sepsis was correlated with the degree of sepsis,it was higher in patients with more severe sepsis(P<0.05).Conclusion The serum PCT has an important value in the diagnosis of sepsis,it is helpful to evaluate prognosis of patients by monitoring its dynamic changes. Key words: Sepsis; Procalcitonin; Diagnosis; Prognosis
