Abstract
Objective To explore the value of ThinPrep cytology test (TCT) in the screening and diagnosis of cervical diseases. Methods 330 patients were detected by Pap smear and fluid-based TCT. Those with positive cytological results (ASCUS or above) received colposcopic biopsies. The findings of biopsy were compared with that of the cytological test. Results The rate of abnormal epithelial cells identified by TCT was significantly higher than that of Pap smear (23.94% vs. 16.06%, P<.0.05). And the rate of severe cellular abnormity detected by TCT increased by 42.92%. With colposcopy-guided biopsies as the gold standard, the positive coincidence rate of TCT was significantly higher than that of Pap smear (67.09% vs. 45. 28%, P< 0.05). Conclusions ThinPrep cytology test is more sensitive than pap smear in screening cervical diseases, and TCT combined with colposcopy-guided biopsies may increase the accuracy of diagnosis.
