Abstract

Objective To evaluate the accuracy of MRI in preoperative T staging of rectal cancer. Methods 60 cases in our department from August 2011 to April 2014 which were treated by AP or APR were enrolled. The rectal cancer should be primary and single. The T staging by MRI and pathology were compared.Analyse the correlative factors and take a sample for MRI scan. Results Twelve of the 14 cases of T1-2 staging are confounding consistent with the pathologic results. For 6 T3 stage cases, MRI results of 4 cases are consistent with pathologic staging. There are 40 cases of T4 stage and all of them are cansistent with the pathologic result. The total accuracy of MRI is 86.67%.Single factor analysis revealed that BMI and the maximum diameter of the tumor could influence the accuracy of MRI. Conclusion There is no statistically difference between T staging by MRI and pathology.BMI could affect the accuracy of T-staging. Key words: Rectal neoplasms; Magnetic resonance imaging; Neoplasm staging
