Abstract
Objective To investigate whether there is significant difference of mechanical phlebitis occurrence after using common silicon PICC catheter and polyurethane PICC catheter. Methods Common silicon PICC catheter and polyurethane PICC catheter were randomized, inserted through basilic and the occurance of mechanical phlebitis were observed. Results The occurnce of mechanical phlebitis in these two groups were compared.and the difference was found significantly(P<0.001).Conclusion The silicone PICC catheter, which are soft and have good histocompafibility, can effectively reduce the friction impact on vascular wall and therefore decrease the occurance of mechanical phlebitis. Key words: PICC catheter; Silica gel material; Polyurethane material; Mechanical phlebitis
