Expression of Bcl-2 and Bax protein in Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder

Objective To investigate the correlation of bcl-2/bax protein and significance in pathological grading or clinical staging of transitional cell carcinoma of bladder.Methods Immunohistochemistry method was used to detect the expression of bcl-2 and bax in 58 cases of transitional cell carcinoma of bladder and 15 cases of normal bladder mucosa tissue.Results High expression of bcl-2 was detected in transitional cell carcinoma of bladder but highly expressed bax was found in normal bladder mucosa tissue.In the development of TCC,the expression of bcl-2 was positively correlated to pathology grade and tumor invasion.As for bax protein,neither pathology grade nor tumor invasion was related to its expression.Conclusion The increased expression of bel-2 protein and the decreased expression of bax protein play an important role in occurrence of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.Bcl-2 Call be considered as a reliable index of clinical judgment to malignant degree and prognosis of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.
