Analysis on effect of hematological examination in prenatal thalassemia screening

Objective To investigate methods,results and effective of hematological examination in prenatal thalassemia screening in pregnant women.Methods We selected 2443 cases of prenatal screening pregnant women from September 2011 to December 2012 in our hospital as the research object.At present we had blood routine,serum iron and hemoglobin electrophoresis check to pregnant women as conventional production test project,gave pregnant women spouse the blood routine inspection,the screening positive cases were accepted with gene diagnosis inspection.Results Hemoglobin electrophoresis test found 629 cases of HbA2 abnormal,further genetic tests results found that couples with same phenotypic 59 cases,couples with same genotype 54 ones,confirmed 52 thalassemia fetus (α-thalassemia 24 cases,β-thalassemia 28 cases).5 cases of severe thalassemia fetus (α-thalassemia 2 cases,β-thalassemia 3 cases).The RBC,Hb and MCV were all lower than normal levels (P ＜ 0.05).The RBC volume distribution width (RDW) was obviously higher than the normal level (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Hematological examination such as blood routine RBC parameters and hemoglobin electrophoresis has certain effect in prenatal thalassemia screening.
