Analysis of subclinical hypothyroidism in diabetic patients

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the incidence of subclinical hypothyroidism in diabetic patients.Methods 318 diabetic hospitalized patients were selected into diabetes group,nomal control group include 62 healthy persons with normol blood glucose.Serum thyroid function tests of all subjects were performed and the thyroid antibodies(TPOAb,TGAb,TRAb)in 134 diabetic patients were detected by chemiluminescence.Results(1)The incidence of abnormal thyroid function in diabetes was 21.4%,the prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism was 13.8%,which both were significantly higher than those(8.06% and 4.84%,respectively)in the normal group(P0.05).(2)The incidence of subclinical hypothyroidism significantly increased with increasing duration of diabetes(P0.05)and decreasing HbA_1c(P0.05).The incidence of subclinical hypothyroidism in TPOAb,TGAb-positive patients was significantly higher than that in TPOAb,TGAb-negative patients(P0.05).Conclusion There is a high incidence of abnormal thyroid function in diabetic patients,particularly subclinical hypothyroidism,which associates with duration of diabetes,blood sugar control and thyroid autoantibodies.
