Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between Helicobacter pylori(HP) infection andgastritis in children and HP transmission among family members. Methods During January 2000 to December 2005,87 children with gastrictis in our hospital including 20 inpatients and 67 outpatients, were examined by gastroscope, pathologyand HP test in gastric mucosa. Results There were 44 HP positive cases and 43 HP negative cases.HP infection was closely related with gastritis in children. The infection rate in HP positive family was 77.3%,however,which was 44.3% in HP negative family. There was a significant difference between the two groups(P0.01).The gastroscopic examination showed that the incidence of children superficial gastritis was 52.87%.The morbidity of duodenal ulcer was 19.54%.The pathological examination indicated that in HP positive group the morbidity of mild chronic superficial gastritis was 23%,whereas the morbidity of moderate gastritis was 50%.However in HP negative group the morbidity was 70% and 23% respectively. There was a significant difference between the two groups(P0.01).Conclusion HP infection has the trend offamily conglutination, and the pathological changes in gastric mucosa are more severe in HP positive group than those in HPnegative group.
