Abstract
Objective To compare the efficacy of metformin and repaglinide in combination with metformin therapy in new-diagnosed type 2 diabetes. Methods 62 new-diagnosed type 2 diabetes were enrolled in this study and divided into 2 groups randomized. One was intensification therapy group (repaglinide in combination with metformin therapy); the other was control group (metformin therapy only). The study lasted for 12 weeks. HbA1c,fasting blood glucose (FBG),2h-postprandial blood glucose (2h-PBG) of three meals and bedtime blood glucose were observed. Hypoglycemic and adverse event occurred in this study were also recorded. Results Compared with baseline,HbA1c,FBG,2h-PBG of three meals and bedtime blood glucose were all reduced in both groups significantly (all p 0.05). In subjects receiving combination therapy,HbA1c,2h-PBG after breakfast and lunch were lower than metformin therapy only (all p 0.05). All Hypoglycemic events were minor and could be recovered without treatment, and there was no major hypoglycemic event occurred in this study. Conclusions The results suggest that repaglinide combined metformin therapy can significantly improve glucose control than metformin therapy, and can be used as an optional therapy in new-diagnosed type 2 diabetes.
