Abstract

The three species were Populus tomentosa Carr. (high resistance), P. deltoides Bartr. cv. ^Lux^ (I-69/55) (resistance) and P. simonii×P. nigra var. italica (susceptible). Three enzymes and protein were examined using Polyarylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE). Clear consistent banding patterns were obtained for EST, POD, PPO and PRO. POD has a special band. Variation analysis showed that three poplars differed evidently in POD. Moreover, surveys showed that POD, PPO, EST and PRO increased differently in damaged trees, of which P. tomentosa increased by 17% in POD. For the above reasons the authors inferred that three enzymes and protein were relative to the resistance, but the most important was POD.
