Review(s) of: I was still living in England when Scritti Politti brought out Provision in 1988. I was an impressionable perfectionist second child, the kind who knew the alphabet backwards when I started school aged four. I already knew I was headed into books, how to set up a drop-letter box, that I wouldn't get married, that I preferred small spaces. I knew I was going to take a while to work out how to be comfortable being me and I wrote about that in volumes of notebooks that have since been destroyed. I was trying to find my voice. Who has time to untangle a child's many misapprehensions of the universe? I had a lot of questions and a lot of brain whirring-my mind sometimes went so fast that my body almost had to stop moving just to try to make out what it was saying.
