Proceedings: 1992 EPRI gas turbine procurement seminar

On September 29--October 1, 1992, a seminar focusing on the purchasing needs and the processes involved in the procurement of gas turbines was held in Danvers, Massachusetts. The seminar provided an opportunity for utility representatives to interact with each other and hear first-hand about successful installations, as well as to address assorted problems and needs of simple- and combined-cycle gas turbine units. The twenty nine seminar attendees consisted of twenty four members of nineteen Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)-member electric utilities with the balance representing EPRI (sponsors of the seminar), invited speakers, and Carnot (the contractor responsible for the organization and administration of the seminar). The 1992 seminar was the seventh in a series of seminars primarily devoted to the combustion turbine procurement process. The first seminar was held in 1986 and consisted of two contiguous meetings and included presentations from four gas turbine manufacturers. The following years, 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990, did not include presentations by manufacturers; rather, these seminars, as well as this year's, focused on problems encountered during the procurement process with an emphasis on specification, engineering, procurement, construction, instrumentation and control, reliability, availability, and maintainability.
