An Analysis Of Figurative Language In Dream Theater’s Bridges In The Sky Lyrics (Skripsi Sastra Inggris, 2016)

The title of this thesis is AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN DREAM THEATER'S BRIDGES IN THE SKY LYRICS. The art of writing song is a form of literary work, which is the way to express the composer's feelings or ideas in a written form. The purpose of this study is to find out the Figurative Language in Dream Theater's song lyric and also to give knowledge about figurative languages that usually found in song lyrics. The writer took the data from Dream Theater song lyric the title is Bridges in The Sky. The qualitative descriptive method was use to analyzed the data in this study. The result of this study showed that there are many figurative languages appear from the beginning until the end of the line lyrics. The meanings of the lyrics found are not easy to understand even each line of the lyric has special meaning. From the data analysis it was found that there are 2 Personification, 27 Metaphor, 1 Oxymoron, and 1 simile. The dominant type of Figurative Language is Metaphor. The result of the study may be useful for English Department student in conducting a study in literature. Key words: Dream Theater, Song Lyrics, Figurative Language
